Kandao's QooCam 360 cameras explained: how the QooCam 3 and QooCam 3 Ultra differ, what they're built for, and how they stack up against Insta360, GoPro, and DJI.

Kandao is a Chinese camera manufacturer whose QooCam line is one of the lesser-known but genuinely capable alternatives to Insta360 and DJI in the 360° camera space. The current lineup centers on the QooCam 3 and its higher-end sibling, the QooCam 3 Ultra.

What Is Kandao / QooCam?

Kandao is a Shenzhen-based camera company, and QooCam is its consumer 360° camera brand — alongside separate Kandao product lines for video conferencing (Meeting series) and professional VR production (Obsidian series). On the consumer side, QooCam competes directly with Insta360's X-series and DJI's Osmo 360, generally positioning itself with strong sensor hardware at a competitive price.

QooCam 3 vs QooCam 3 Ultra: Which Is Which?

QooCam 3 Ultra96MP 360° stills (14-bit), 8K 30fps 360° video (5.7K at 60fps), 10-bit HLG, dual 1/1.7" CMOS sensors, f/1.6 aperture, 128GB built-in storage, waterproof, 6-axis gyroscope, 4 built-in microphonesCurrent flagship

Kandao's earlier QooCam 8K (2020) has since been superseded by the QooCam 3 line and is no longer the brand's current model.

What Is QooCam Used For?

  • Travel and everyday 360° content — comparable use case to Insta360 X5, at a different price point
  • High-resolution stills — the Ultra's 96MP/14-bit photo capture is aimed at creators who want maximum detail for reframing or printing
  • Underwater and rugged shooting — waterproof design without an additional housing
  • Budget-conscious creators who want large sensors and 8K capture without paying flagship Insta360/DJI pricing

How Does QooCam Compare to Insta360, GoPro, and DJI?

QooCam is less widely known than Insta360, GoPro, and DJI, which means a smaller accessory ecosystem and software community — but on paper, the QooCam 3 Ultra's sensor size (dual 1/1.7") and 8K/96MP specs are competitive with those flagships, often at a lower price. It's a reasonable pick for creators who prioritize hardware specs and value over brand ecosystem and third-party support.

Where to Host and Share QooCam Footage

Kandao's own app handles editing and stitching, but not web delivery. Mirame360 accepts equirectangular 360° video and photos from any camera, including the QooCam 3 and QooCam 3 Ultra, and handles encoding and CDN-ready embeds so you can publish or share your footage without building your own hosting pipeline.
